A Safari Adventure: Kruger National Park and Cape Town
For travelers seeking a true taste of the African wilderness, Kruger National Park offers an unforgettable safari experience. As one of the largest game reserves in Africa, it’s renowned for its diverse wildlife, including the "Big Five"—lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo. Whether you’re a wildlife photographer or just eager to witness nature’s grandeur, the park’s best time to visit is during the dry season (May to September). During these months, the animals congregate at waterholes, creating prime opportunities for up-close wildlife encounters and stunning photos. The cooler weather also makes for a comfortable safari experience, with fewer mosquitoes and clear, golden landscapes that are ideal for photography.
On my trip to South Africa—one of my favorite journeys out of the 37 countries I've visited—I brought along 19 friends and divided our adventure into two parts: Kruger National Park and Cape Town.
The Safari: Kruger National Park
We chose Viva Safaris, and I couldn’t recommend them enough. Their 5-day safari package was priced at around $1,000 per person, which included meals and lodging. For the price, the accommodations were remarkably comfortable, and the guides were an absolute delight—funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. We were lucky enough to spot all the animals we hoped to see, thanks to their expertise. The trip begins by flying into Johannesburg, where we were picked up and driven to the game reserve. The reserve's private drives were a highlight since we could venture off-road to get closer to the animals, unlike in Kruger National Park itself, where vehicles must stick to designated roads.
If you're planning a safari, contact Patti from Viva Safaris via WhatsApp at +27 66 147 8484 or visit their website for more details—mention that Connor referred you! and my hope is they will discount you.
Part Two: Cape Town
After our safari, we spent six days in Cape Town, a vibrant city surrounded by stunning natural landscapes. A visit to Table Mountain is a must, with its panoramic views over the city and coastline. One of our favorite activities was exploring the Franschhoek wine region via the wine tram—a relaxing and picturesque way to sample some of South Africa’s best wines. For the adventurous, great white shark cage diving with the White Shark Diving Company was another unforgettable experience. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Cape Town, so renting a car is highly recommended for convenience. The adrenaline of diving with these majestic creatures is an experience like no other.
With its mix of wild safaris and thrilling city experiences, South Africa offers something for everyone. Whether you're marking off your next adventure on your TRVLD suitcase or soaking in the beauty of the Cape, this destination deserves a spot on every traveler’s bucket list!
